Why Retinol Belongs In Your Skincare Routine

As an active ingredient, it is proven and designed to improve specific skin concerns.

You may have heard of Retinol and currently be using it in one form or another, or you may be yet to try it. Whatever your current relationship with Retinol, it is definitely an ingredient that will help elevate your skincare and enhance your skincare routine.

As an active ingredient, it is proven and designed to improve specific skin concerns, as outlined in more detail below.

Take safe, natural skincare approach

Retinol itself is a synthetic derivative of Vitamin A. At Stemlab, we prefer to use a proven and effective natural retinol alternative known as Retinyl Palmitate (1%). This is a plant derived antioxidant combining retinol (pure vitamin A) and the fatty acid ‘palmitic acid’.

Retinyl Palmitate is found naturally in our skin and applying it topically is especially helpful as we age. The 1% concentration we use in our Anti-aging Retinol Serum is safe and effective for almost every skin type and condition, and this type of natural Vitamin A and retinol alternative is far less irritating to skin than the synthetic version.

Turn back the clock

Retinol has anti-aging properties due to its capability to improve collagen production. Collagen occurs naturally in our skin but as we age and time goes on, we lose the ability to produce as much. This is often associated with skin losing firmness (saggy), plumpness (hollowing) and changes to texture, such as fine lines and deeper wrinkles. Retinol helps boost collagen production and strengthening skins elasticity for a natural way to age gracefully.

Retinol can also thicken your dermis – an important aspect of slowing down the formation of new wrinkles.

Brighten, repair and protect

The inclusion of Retinyl Palmitate 1% in Stemlab’s Anti-aging Retinol Serum acts as an exfoliant on a cellular to reveal brighter, smoother skin and a more even tone. Your skin is resurfaced which means newer skin is revealed and damage, such as acne scarring, pigmentation and sun damage are counteracted.

Helps prevent & treat breakouts & acne

Vitamin A is not just ideal for dry skin. Combination and oily skin types will love the impact it has on regulating and balancing skin. By speeding up the skin cell renewal process, it clears out clogged pores that are a primary cause of blemishes.

Our serum actively works to help prevent pores from re-clogging, essentially preventing as many breakouts from occurring, and accelerating healing.

Versatile, simple & effective

Stemlab’s Anti-aging Retinol Serum is suitable for almost all individuals and is easily worked into your existing skincare routine. If you are new to retinol, we suggest introducing this product gradually, such as once a week or every second day, building up to daily use in the evening.

Just apply 2-3 drops to entire face or targeted areas such as the forehead after cleansing and toning and gently massage into skin. Follow with Stemlab Hydra+ Rejuvenating Cream. Often you will see improvements quickly, however continued use will lead to more noticeable long-term benefits.

A final note

Whilst Vitamin A is truly an incredible inclusion for almost all skincare routines, it is important to discuss use with your doctor prior if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Active ingredients such as Vitamin A can also make the skin more susceptible/sensitive to the effects of the sun, so please always protect your skin with a high-grade SPF during the day to protect against UVA/UVB rays, and reapply during extended sun exposure.
