Creating the perfect skincare routine for mum this Mother’s Day
We all know that mum’s juggle a lot responsibilities and wear (and look good in) many different hats – storyteller, giver of moral support, caretaker, and much more.
This often means ‘me-time for mum can be hard to come by and if she’s anything like our mum’s, until recently she’s been using the same cold cream and moisturiser for the better part of a decade – meaning it might not be the best match for her skin and delivering optimal results.
Although you don’t have to wait until Mother’s Day to treat mum, it’s a perfect opportunity to do so. Stemlab’s top tips for creating the perfect skincare routine for mum are:
Be skin-type sensible
Some of the biggest signs and concerns for mature skin are past damage. Over time visible (and non-visible cellular) damage from the environment might be visible in mums’ skin – think pigmentation and sunspots, uneven tone and texture.
Mature skin also tends to lack collagen (our body is less effective at producing this naturally as we age) which means the skin is prone to sagging and forming fine lines which evolve into more substantial wrinkles.
Mature skin also really needs deep hydration and moisture to keep it looking its best.
Choosing products that contain ingredients proven to boost collagen production and reduce the impact of free radical damage to the skin will be a great investment for mum. They will help reverse existing damage whilst also protect her skin against future damage.
Keep things uncomplicated and natural
Lots of products make BIG claims when it comes to turning back the clock, but rely on synthetic chemical inclusions to achieve this (and use lower concentrations of active ingredients to cut costs).
Mainstream brands that use chemicals can easily upset mum’s delicate skin mantle and even cause irritation or increased sensitivity. The right combination of natural products in skincare (active ingredients) are incredibly effective at improving skin health and condition – and much gentler and kinder to skin and our environment.
At Stemlab we have harnessed the natural effectiveness of plant-based ingredients and combined these with the capabilities of science to form a range that is the ultimate line of defence in elevating skin health.
Each ingredient has been selected for its unique capability to nourish, protect, hydrate, balance and strengthen skin. Our products are vegan, cruelty-free, prepared with respect and care and all inclusions are sustainably sourced and locally made.
If in doubt, invest in a hard-working serum
Being time poor means creating a complete and complementary skincare routine that may seem overwhelming for mum, so we’re here to simplify that process. A quick cleanse (morning and evening) will help remove dead skin cells and wash away any impurities (try our Ultra Purifying Gel Cleanser here).
Next up – serums. They are an essential step before moisturising and the ideal way to deliver a concentrated dose of nutrient-rich antioxidants and active ingredients designed to balance, hydrate, repair and strengthen skin below the surface.
By massaging just 1-2 pumps of Repair & Glow onto a clean face and neck mum can expect her skin to be more balanced (thanks to Niacinamide) and less red (courtesy of calming Vitamin E that reduces inflammation). This serum helps boost the formation of collagen, essential to combat premature aging, so overtime tone and texture will be more even and radiant too!
At night, she can apply 1-2 pumps of our vegan Anti-Aging Retinol Serum in her evening routine before bedtime to experience instant hydration and a reduction in any breakouts (yes, even mature skin can experience them). With continued use, over time mum’s skin elasticity will be better and pigmentation and fine lines less visible.
Needless to say, the best gift of all will be healthy skin that has a natural radiant glow (and just think, you’ll be to thank)!
